Matter is a story of evolution and transformation—every stone bears the marks of its origins. From a journey that began deep within the earth, the material finds its way into the hands of a person who shapes it to serve their own purposes—an artist who, by molding it, gives it new meaning. During the creative process, a bond forms between the artist and the material, and the boundary between them blurs. In his work, Jan Musiałowski engages in an interaction. The complex process of shaping is not only the artist’s influence on the material, but also the material’s influence on the artist. It is in this exchange that the essence of the series lies. The finished sculpture is an expression of this bond, which underscores the object’s place in the world. The moment when the chaotic energy of two bodies takes on a permanent form and becomes the final link in the raw material’s life cycle. Musiałowski carefully selects his materials, considering their impact on the viewer and the relationship between the object and its surroundings. The tangibility of the sculptural form allows for interaction not only with the object’s texture and physicality, but also with the stereotypes associated with it through experience. In his sculptures, the artist encapsulates a part of his own sensibility and consciously transfers it to the viewer. The material continues its story, from its natural origins to its interaction with the environment as a work of art. Symbolically, this is the journey from the physical birth of the material to its further transformation within the mental space of the artistic concept.
